THE Chichester district's amateur actors are being offered a chance to broaden their performance skills through a new project called 'scene it!'
Two drama groups are being sought by the district council's arts development section, providing up to ten members each to take part in two free Sunday workshops.
Places will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
The first workshop is
an introductory masterclass at Chichester Festival Theatre on Sunday, April 20, where the actors will work with a professional coach on devised performance, voice technique and physical theatre.
"Following this, they will be set the challenge of creating a brand-new 15-minute piece of theatre using these and other skills," said a council spokesman.
"A professional theatre director will visit the groups between workshops to advise on the piece's rehearsal and development."
The second full-day workshop will take place on Sunday, June 8, at the Capitol Theatre in Horsham, when groups from Chichester, Crawley and Horsham will perform their new work at the 300-seater venue to an invited audience.
Cllr Nick Thomas, district council portfolio holder for culture and sport, said it was a marvellous opportunity for budding performers to learn more of their craft from theatre professionals.
"We hope many amateur societies and groups in our area will sign up to be part of this free coaching, funded through West Sussex Arts Partnership," he added.
'Scene it!' is open to members aged 18 and over of any amateur dramatic groups or societies in the district.
There is no charge to take part, but the council spokesman said participants must attend both Sunday workshops at Chichester and Horsham for the project to be viable.
