A Goodwood to Goodwood charity walk helped a mother raise £3,000 for the charity Muscular Dystrophy Campaign which provides support for her daughter, who suffers from the incurable disease.
Katie Bizzey walked a 38.5-mile round-trip in just over 14 hours across the South Downs from Goodwood racecourse to Arundel, through forest, across farmland and parklands.

Single mum Katie, from Suffolk, decided to take part in the Just Walk South Downs challenge, an annual multi-charity walk organised by UK trekking company, Across the Divide, for her daughter Laura (12), who suffers from the untreatable and incurable disease muscular dystrophy.

"Even with illnesses like cancer there are drugs and treatments to try. But there is nothing Laura can be given at all. It is very frustrating," said Katie.

"This event was the latest in my determination to face fundraising challenges to gain funds for research into muscular dystrophy.

"It was my toughest challenge yet, but also my most rewarding and most enjoyable."

Katie finished the walk back at Goodwood racecourse at 11.55pm after three hours of night walking.

She added: "Laura was on the finishing line to walk me in – a very emotional moment and one that I had been not sure I would be able to achieve."
