THREE people had to jump out of a bedroom window to escape a massive house fire in the early hours of Sunday.
The home on Fennell Crescent, Broadfield, was completely gutted as flames swept through every room - even burning out the staircase.

A family of six escaped the blaze and were treated for smoke inhalation at East Surrey Hospital.

It is understood that three people jumped from the first floor window to be caught by other members of the family who were waiting below.

Crawley firefighter Shane Watt said: "The fire was reported at 7:30 am. They were very, very lucky they got out of that.

"The whole house is just not there, the stairs are destroyed and every room, every floor, every ceiling is burnt."

Eight cats and a dog were also evacuated from the charred building.

See Wednesday's Observer for a full report and pictures.
