Crawley town centre reopening: Here is how council will help local economy re-open successfully and safely

Crawley Borough Council will receive more than £100,000 to help the high street reopen and attract shoppers and tourists to the town.And the council have revealed how they will use the funding to re-open successfully and safely.

A council spokesperson said: “Crawley Borough Council has received some government funding to help Crawley town centre reopen successfully and safely.

The shops and business our readers are going to visit first when non-essential retail opens next week

"We will spend the funding in line with the government guidance, which states that the funds can be spent on the following to help local economies re-open successfully and safely: communications and public information activity; business-facing awareness raising activities; support to develop an action plan; temporary changes to public spaces and the public realm; support and promote a safe public environment for the visitor economy; improving green space and seating areas to encourage people back to town centres; and, beautification of areas (by planting flowers and removing graffiti) to support the visitor economy.

"The funding will in particular support the reopening of retail businesses that have been closed during the lockdown period in the town centre and in neighbourhood parades where required.

"We also have published a practical guide to reopening safely for businesses which is available on our website and will continue to share safety messages for consumers and employees.”
