In response to J Hennah of Sussex Gardens Trust, I don’t disagree that public parks are one of the great glories of British life. Parks are places that anyone can relax and find enjoyment in.

Winter brings the snow and people think it’s good

I read with incredulity the letter by D Mayne (February 8) trumpeting how wonderful  the European Bill of Human Rights is. I have a few comments to make about this bill.

I have read with interest the letter from Cllr Ian Irvine in the Crawley Observer (January 25) regarding the proposed refurbishment of Worth Park gardens with the help of a substantial grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. I take exception to the final paragraph where he states the ‘history of the gardens is unsourced and highly dubious’.

I read the article in your paper last week about the State of the Borough debate.

Crawley Town Planners need to visit Horsham to see how it is possible to modernise, sympathetically with the old historic buildings.

I am writing on behalf of the Sussex Gardens Trust to comment on the recent Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant offer to Crawley for the repair and restoration of Worth Park, particularly Cllr Irvine’s surprising statement that much of the history of the site is ‘completely unsourced and therefore highly dubious’.

MENTION of the Overton’s Beehive Works van which was pictured in Historic Crawley, parked on The Boulevard c1958 has prompted one man to share his memories of life long before the new town arrived.

Whilst the pre-snow arrangements at Heathrow affected thousands of passengers, Gatwick Airport is to be congratulated on maintaining a full service during the worst of the snow. BAA at Heathrow must be green with envy! My colleague, Canon Jonathan Baldwin, Senior Chaplain at Gatwick is also to be praised both for manning a snow plough and for his untiring service to staff and passengers alike during this challenging cold spell.
