Your Letters
Letter: Questions over parks’ budgets
In response to J Hennah of Sussex Gardens Trust, I don’t disagree that public parks are one of the great glories of British life. Parks are places that anyone can relax and find enjoyment in.
Letter: Woefully out of touch with mood
I read with incredulity the letter by D Mayne (February 8) trumpeting how wonderful the European Bill of Human Rights is. I have a few comments to make about this bill.
Letter: Congratulations to fantastic town
It has certainly been a week of ‘Congratulations’, ‘Well Done’s’ and ‘Thank you’s’!
Letter: Gardens have great worth
I have read with interest the letter from Cllr Ian Irvine in the Crawley Observer (January 25) regarding the proposed refurbishment of Worth Park gardens with the help of a substantial grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. I take exception to the final paragraph where he states the ‘history of the gardens is unsourced and highly dubious’.
Letter: Get rid of rail crossings
I read the article in your paper last week about the State of the Borough debate.
Letters: Demolition is sacrilege
Crawley Town Planners need to visit Horsham to see how it is possible to modernise, sympathetically with the old historic buildings.
Letter: Human rights
In his Observer column, MP Henry Smith asserts that the ‘ so called Human Rights Act introduced under Labour’, has enabled the European Court of Human Rights to ‘ impose perverse notions of rights on the people of this country’.
2 commentsLetter: Thanks over lost prescription
Through your paper I would like to thank whoever it was who kindly picked up a prescription I had dropped.
Letter: Old pal search
The RAF Changi Association was formed in 1996 and we have 1250 members throughout UK and the World. All members served at Changi post war from 1946 until 1971 when the RAF withdrew from Singapore. .
Letter: Seeking Ann
I WANT to find an old friend/colleague of mine for a reunion taking place in summer?
Letter: Snowmen destroyed
To the driver of the black 4x4 that just drove up over the grass in Seymour Road, I hope you are very pleased with yourself for knocking down the two snowmen that the children had spent a few hours making and decorating.
Letter: A park of great worth to town
I am writing on behalf of the Sussex Gardens Trust to comment on the recent Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant offer to Crawley for the repair and restoration of Worth Park, particularly Cllr Irvine’s surprising statement that much of the history of the site is ‘completely unsourced and therefore highly dubious’.
Letter: Congratulations to snow heroes
Whilst the pre-snow arrangements at Heathrow affected thousands of passengers, Gatwick Airport is to be congratulated on maintaining a full service during the worst of the snow. BAA at Heathrow must be green with envy! My colleague, Canon Jonathan Baldwin, Senior Chaplain at Gatwick is also to be praised both for manning a snow plough and for his untiring service to staff and passengers alike during this challenging cold spell.
Letter: Thanks for snow clearance
On behalf of the residents of Collier Row and Cooper Row in Southgate, a big thank you to our neighbour John Scannel for clearing tracks in the snow on Sunday morning to make our journey a little bit easier.
Letter: Crawley town memories
I AM writing to say how much I am enjoying the articles about old Crawley. I have lived here since 1952 and of course have seen all these changes.
Letter: Crawley housing anxiety
Last week I and a number of other councillors attended the borough council’s State of the Borough event at the Civic Hall in order to listen to the views of residents. During the evening the large number of people from all over Crawley who were there were asked whether they agreed or disagreed with various statements.
1 commentLetter: Unsatisfactory water service
DESPITE requests, Southern Water have still not made readily available the detail that apparently supports their claim that metering leads to a reduction in consumption.
Letter: Fill our potholes!
I was interested to read in the Crawley Observer (January 18) that Henry Smith MP is going to “… fill in a few potholes with gold.”
Letter: Bad attitude of danger drivers
I am constantly amazed at the attitude of drivers to emergency response vehicles - some do pull over but others carry on regardless.
Letter: Moral duty over breast implants
FORTY thousand women in Britain - including I am sure a number in Crawley - have received breast implants mainly from private clinics, which it now transpires were filled illegally with an inferior grade of industrial silicone not intended for human use.
Letter: Sports lovers
I am researching for a book on Britain’s specially enthusiastic and committed sports fans and would like to meet and interview anyone who is one of these super sports lovers.
Letter: Generous gifts
The Crawley Pensioners’ Active Group adopted Save The Children as their charity for 2011-2012.
