Letter: Bad attitude of danger drivers
I am constantly amazed at the attitude of drivers to emergency response vehicles - some do pull over but others carry on regardless.
Several weeks ago whilst cycling past Southgate playing fields from Crawley a police car flashed by me, lights and sirens blazing. Despite this a car shot out straight in front of him and turned right into his path heading for Crawley. I was just waiting for the crash. Fortunately the excellent driving of the police car saved the day and both cars were unscathed!
Do not drivers realise that one day there may be a member of their family whom a police car, fire engine or ambulance has to get to quckly and take immediate action to facilitate the emergency vehicle getting to the destination as speedily as possible?
Also, whilst writing I would ask anyone parking their vehicle to leave enough distance for a fire engine/ambulance to get through. Quite often cars are parked so closely on opposite sides of the road that there is barely enough room for a car to get through let alone a fire engine although I believe that the badly parked vehicles would come off worse as the fire engine would not stop politely to ask the owners to move them!
