Letter: Congratulations to fantastic town

It has certainly been a week of ‘Congratulations’, ‘Well Done’s’ and ‘Thank you’s’!

First, to all those fantastic people and snow volunteers who worked so hard across the town to clear side roads and paved areas. Well done and thank you.

I must also say a special ‘Thank you’ to residents of the Tinsley Lane and Birches area in my ward of Three Bridges, who worked so well together to clear difficult areas. Well done. It was amazing to see how quickly such help had snapped into action.

Next, congratulations to all those who participated in the Let’s FACE It! awards at the Hawth last Tuesday. Last year well over 100 groups from across Crawley, had participated in this growing and popular community project.

Well done to those who organise the Let’s FACE It! projects and congratulations to all those recognised for their sterling work in their local communities.

The award ceremony was great – well produced and polished – so thank you and well done to those who organised such an evening, especially Ruth Growney and Chris Harris – and their teams of course.

Excuse me if, as Ward Councillor for Three Bridges, I once again appear ‘wardist’, but CONGRATULATIONS to the Three Bridges Forum for winning the overall Community Award.

My colleague Bob Burgess and I instigated this very successful forum about four years ago. Since then it has gone from strength to strength. One of the ideas they have worked on is an heritage trail for this historic neighbourhood. Leaflets and information can be found in the library and the town hall.

Whilst on the subject of Three Bridges and innovative ideas, I must say well done to Three Bridges Junior School for hosting a really interesting maths afternoon for parents/carers. I believe this was a great success and the first of many such new ideas and projects aimed at bringing together pupils, parents, staff and governors.

It is so important that everyone works together in such informative and interesting ways, for the good of the children, school and community, – but especially for the children!

Finally, still on the subject of schools and talent, my husband and I attended Saturday night’s ‘Crawley’s Got Talent’. It was fantastic! The whole show was professional and of an exceptional high standard. Well done to those who organised this event. I believe it was Kevin Eason’s last event before retiring. Thank you Kevin for all your sterling work at the Hawth over the years.

Congratulations to all those contestants who took part on Saturday and found themselves in the top six! Heather Illidge from Thomas Bennett won overall with an amazing rendition of ‘On my Own’. It really blew me away!

Thomas Bennett produce really great students and Heather showcased, not only her own exceptional talent, but that of her school who have recognised such a gift and encouraged it to blossom and flourish. I believe that all these ‘Well Done’s’, ‘Thank You’s’ and ‘Congratulations’ show what a fantastic town we have and what fantastic people live here. I look forward to future weeks of celebrations, especially in this year of Diamond Jubilee and Olympic Games.
