Letter: Crawley town memories
I AM writing to say how much I am enjoying the articles about old Crawley. I have lived here since 1952 and of course have seen all these changes.
There is so much history here and it is good to see they are still finding some historic treasures.
I particularly enjoyed the article about the ambulance driver. I knew Mr Weston and his wife, who I am still in touch with. I have a lot to thank them for. It was through them that I joined the Red Cross as they were very involved with the organisation.
In turn, I have been working at Crawley Hospital since 1964, eventually qualifying as a theatre practitioner.
Many happy memories of going out in those ambulances with their dark windows and ringing bells as a voluntary aid detachment nurse.
I look forward to seeing what’s in next week’s paper.
