Letter: Fill our potholes!
I was interested to read in the Crawley Observer (January 18) that Henry Smith MP is going to “… fill in a few potholes with gold.”
Well I can tell you that, as a regular cyclist and car driver, over many years I have tried to get West Sussex County Council to fix potholes in Crawley, but they don’t seem to have Crawley on their map! Even though Crawley is the largest town in West Sussex road repairs are run from Horsham.
To get a pothole fixed you have to report it first – they don’t seem to be able to find them for themselves (it’s not really that difficult, is it?!) and they never get back to you to tell you whether a hole has been repaired or not. Any Crawley resident will know that the pothole repair service offered by West Sussex is very poor – during good years and tougher years, and over many years. Although I seem to recall that they managed to ‘find’ £1million to repair Crawley’s roads just before the May 2010 general election.
Please Mr Smith, just fill the potholes and save the gold for improving our cycle-paths and reducing congestion.
Peter Smith, Crawley
