CRAWLEY Town manager Steve Evans cannot wait to put his new side to the test against one of the best teams in the Blue Square Premier,
Torquay.
They are the first of two tough opponents over the Bank Holiday weekend,
starting at the Broadfield Stadium on Saturday.

Reds then make the short trip to Stevenage Borough on Monday to take on another highly-tipped club.

Evans watched Torquay lose 2-0 to Ebbsfleet live on TV on Monday night and insisted they have 'nothing to fear'.

He revealed: "I feared Torquay last year but they are weaker this year and we are much stronger.

"I would like to think we can win if we play as we can do and I think we can beat Stevenage as well.

"We have to play with the right energy levels."

I'm a Torquay fan, so am a bit confused as to whether we are "one of the best teams in the division" as per your correspondent, or "weaker this year" according to Evans.

If any of you Crawley fans watched us on the telly on Monday, you must be licking your lips! We were appalling, and it was embarrassing to watch. Our only player to emerge with any credit was your old boy, Thompson.

I'm pretty sure it will be a different team (literally) to come to Crawley on Saturday, Buckle won't stand for a performance like that against Ebbsfleet.

Looking forward to my first visit to your stadium, and hope you all enjoy the game (but not too much!).
