CRAWLEY Town manager Steve Evans' father-in-law has been revealed as part of the consortium which has bought the club.
Tom Scott, described in a previous club statement as being a businessman, has been identified, despite Evans himself insisting that he had not bought a stake in the club nor any of his associates from his days as manager of Boston.
Scott, together
with previous owner John Duly and Pound Hill hairdresser Phil Jarman and chairman Vic Marley are delaying announcing who the others buyers are until the final details have been finalised.
Crawley Town Football Club chairman Victor Marley has released a statement following the takeover of the club earlier this week.
Statement reads as follows:
"For the sake of clarity I can state that the SA Group and the Majeed family have now severed all connections with the football club.
"Therefore, I can confirm that the entire shareholding in Crawley Town Football Club has been transferred to the new owners.
"It is expected that the newly formed consortium will grow in numbers as discussions with a few private local individual businessmen are at an advanced stage.
"Those discussions will continue with those parties over a number of days, and any developments will be reported, via the official voice of Crawley Town Football Club.
"Mr John Duly, Mr Phil Jarman, Mr Tom Scott, Mr Barry Munn and I, believe there is much work to be done prior to meeting with the press and supporters, as we feel it is imperative that we can talk in full knowledge of all the facts.
"The consortium will have a strategy to be open and transparent with everyone, but we must remind all that it is a private commercial business, so we must have a degree of privacy in relation to certain aspects.
"All football clubs, more than any other business, brings gossip from those not in any position to know the truth.
"We would therefore ask our supporters and commercial partners to treat these with suspicion.
"As of yesterday, we have set-up a further meeting with our legal advisors and booked diary dates with the Football Conference, and of course, our landlords, Crawley Borough Council.
"We have advised our Supporters Club, Chairman, Mr Steve Leake, we wish to meet with them, and that will be done at the earliest opportunity once certain key objectives have been met.
"There is much to be done in the short term, which will obviously direct us for the long term.
"The finances of the football club can be described at best as stable but we have to address some immediate issues.
"We are confident that these issues can be dealt with to everyone's satisfaction.
"It would now be prudent of me to knowledge the support of the Duly family, who take the greatest of plaudits for their extreme generosity and it is fantastic to have them back involved at Crawley Town Football Club.
"I have no doubt that had John Duly not stepped forward the takeover would have failed."
Also joining us on the board here at Broadfield Stadium is local businessman Mr Phil Jarman and Mr Tom Scott, the father-in-law of our team manager, Mr Steve Evans.
Tom has been a guest here at the club on numerous occasions this season and I am delighted he took up my offer to join us. He will play only a minor part as we go forward as Mr Duly and Mr Jarman are the key drivers to take the football club forward.
This newly formed consortium is still very much in its infancy and that should be respected. We are confident that by Friday, 18th April 2008, we will be ready to introduce the consortium, its plans and strategies for Crawley Town Football Club.
I have today requested that no further comment from anyone at Crawley Town Football Club should be made in relation to the takeover, until we are in a position to talk factually. We ask the media and supporters to understand and respect this request.
To our supporters and commercial partners, we thank you for your patience and continued support. We must all remember, we have seven very important league matches, and of course, the Sussex Senior Cup Final, to look forward to and it would be great if the team received your support at this key stage of the season.
May we wish Steve Evans and the team good luck on Saturday against York City.
Victor Marley
Chairman
Crawley Town Football Club
