CRAWLEY Town made the perfect start to their new era under new owners with a resounding 6-1 victory over York City.
Two goals each by Pierre Joseph-Dubois and Jon-Paul Pittman combined with a goal each by loan signing from Crystal Palace Ryan Hall, making his home debut, and Jamie Cook.

It was just like the old days with former owner John Duly returning to the directors' box in what was the first home game since the dramatic takeover was confirmed.

Duly is believed to be the biggest shareholder among the newly-formed consortium Prospect Estates Holdings Ltd, who bought the club off the SA Group on Tuesday.

And to mark the occasion, Duly was introduced to the players in the changing room by manager Steve Evans.

Evans had named an unchanged side from the one which beat Eastbourne Borough 1-0 in the Sussex Senior Cup final on Tuesday night.

The off-the-field changes seemed to have a good affect on the pitch, as Pittman headed Reds into the lead in the 18th minute, following a cross by imposing midfielder Ryan Hall.

York got back onto level terms with a goal in the 27th minute by Martyn Woolford, who raced past Lee Blackburn before firing past 'keeper Ashley Bayes.

But Town wasted no time in regaining the lead and in an amazing spell, a total of three goals were scored by either side in the space of four minutes.

Hall - a candidate for man of the match - made it 2-1 on 29 minutes with a well-executed free-kick driven in from just outside the right hand side of the area into the bottom left corner of the net.

A minute later Joseph-Dubois immediately made it 3-1 when he netted a ball crossed to him from around 15 yards.

The scoreline could have been even more in Crawley's favour but for Hall hitting the crossbar with a 25-yard shot and Pittman having another chance saved by York 'keeper Josh Mimms, having beaten the defence.

Crawley remained dominant and York could offer little in reply, surprising considering the visitors were actually above Reds in the table.

Looking relaxed and with the game already won, Town continued to go for goal in an attractive style, adding three more goals in the last 10 minutes.

Pittman scored this second of the game after 80 minutes when he received a ball from Hall, raced through between two defenders and beat Mimms from 15 yards.

Joseph-Dubois made it 5-1 six minutes later when he netted on the rebound from an initial 25-yard blast by Hall which rebounded off the post and into his path.

Substitute Jamie Cook then added added insult to injury by scoring a sixth goal just moments after coming off the bench in added time.

Set up yet again by Hall, he made easy work of a close-range back-post header as Reds rounded off their biggest league victory of the season.

Appeals had been made by both new co-owner Phil Jarman and Evans for fans to return to Broadfield for this game.

Gates this season and last have been much lower than before as large numbers of fans voted with their feet in opposition to the way the club was being run by Azwar and Chas Majeed.

However on Saturday, despite the Majeed era being over, there was no noticable improvement.

This was perhaps due to the mysterious style in which the takeover has been presented.

Some members of the consortium have yet still not been announced, John Duly has so far refused to comment publically on his role in the deal and the new company which owns the club is suspiciously based in Boston.

On Friday it emerged one of the buyers, Tom Scott, is in fact Steve Evans' father-in-law, despite the Crawley boss having denied the club was being bought by either himself or his associates from Boston Utd.

Much has to be done to get the fans back onside if the club is to realise its ambitions of challenging at the top end of the table, even despite Saturday's incredible result.
