CRAWLEY Town lost their opening game of the season in the Blue Square Premier 1-0 at home to York City through a 70th minute goal by Craig Farrell.
STEVE Evans handed debuts to five new signings for their opening game of the season at home to York City.
Goalkeeper Simon Rayner, defenders Chris Giles and Jake Wright and wingers Danny Forrest and Lewis Killeen were all named in Town's starting XI, while other newcomers Same Rents, Nick Morgan and latest signing Anton Douglas, aged 17, were on the bench.
Crawley's manager Steve Evans watched the game from the stand as he started a 12-match touchline ban he received from being found guilty by the FA of several charges of abusing referees.
Brodie had York's opening two chances, forcing Reds' custodian Rayner into an early save from a narrow angle and then in the 18th minute saw a 25-yard free-kick hit the crossbar.
Crawley's chances were confined to an early shot by Dannie Bulman which missed the target and another which required a save by the visitors' keeper.
Town suffered a blow on the half hour when their skipper Chris Giles was forced to leave the field through injury, following a foul by Brodie for which he was booked. Giles handed his captain's armband to eventual man of the match winner Dannie Bulman.
York stepped up a gear after the break although could not show much for their efforts until the 64th minute when Ben Wilkinson rattled the upright from 20 yards.
As their momentum grew, they put Crawley under more pressure and eventually took the lead 20 minutes before the final whistle when an attempted clearance by Reds' defender Jamie Stevens was blocked and fell directly to York's Farrell, who wasted no time in scoring off the inside of the post.
In the 85th minute Brodie had a goal disallowed after fouling Stevens on the way to finding the back of the net.
Jon-Paul Pittman ended a poor performance by Crawley by lifting a late hance to equalise well wide from the edge of the area.
