A CONCERNED Broadbridge Heath father has vowed to fight 'anti-social' drinking.

Nigel Dixon, 43, of Shelley Drive, is starting a campaign to change local laws on alcohol consumption in public open spaces.

He is approaching Horsham District Council to ask them to pass a bylaw in the district banning anyone drinking alcohol outside, apart from those within licensed property grounds.

"This is something I intend to pursue until completion whether it takes weeks, months, or years," Mr Dixon promised.

"I will not finish until this is completed. I will not stop until we have got the result."

Mr Dixon is a father of five children ranging from 19-years old to five.

He said he is concerned with the problem of anti-social drinking, which he argues leads to other substance abuses such as drugs.

Mr Dixon is a Broadbridge Heath parish councillor but insists at the moment this is a personal project not a parish council one.

The idea of banning the consumption of alcohol outside is based on a similar initiative set up in Crawley back in 2006.

Crawley Borough Council approved a Designated Public Places Order which covers the whole of the town excluding Gatwick Airport.

The order means the police can ask you stop drinking and to hand over any opened containers of alcohol if it's associated with anti-social behaviour.
