A HORSHAM manager is calling on customers to take part in a world record wine tasting event.

Donovan Holmes, manager at The Lynd Cross in Springfield Road, is staging the event as part of the pub's 19-day wine festival, which runs from Wednesday May 21 until Sunday June 8 inclusive.

It is one of 680 Wetherspoon pubs across the UK that is hosting the synchronised wine tasting in an attempt to create a new Guinness World Record.

The wine tasting will take place at The Lynd Cross at 6pm on Wednesday May 21, with customers offered a free glass of wine (50ml).

Mr Holmes said: "This is a great opportunity for people to be part of a Guinness World Record attempt.

"All they have to do is come to the pub and enjoy a glass of wine at the same time as other customers in Wetherspoon pubs across the UK.

"The current world record stands at 5,100 tasters and I am confident that it can be beaten, with my customers playing their part."

During the festival, The Lynd Cross will be serving six new wines not previously available in the pub, which will complement up to 16 additional wines.

The new wines on offer are; Sonoma-Cutrer Grand Cru Chardonnay 2006 (USA), Valpolicella Allegrini 2007 (Italy),
Hawkes Bay Rosé Villa Maria 2007 (New Zealand), Vina Casablanca Sauvignon Blanc 2007 (Chile),
Cristal Cava Brut NV Castellblanch (Spain) and McLaren Vale Grenache Willunga 2006 (Australia).

They will be sold at £2.10 for a 175ml glass, £2.85 for a 250ml glass and £7.39 for a bottle.
