Summer jam with Jamie

LOCAL lad Jamie Friday has been hot on the heels of the Crawley music scene for years.
But August will see the launch of his most ambitious project yet – Summer Jam at The Hawth.
Set to sizzle on the night will be five of Crawley's best loved bands rocking out in a marquee on Friday August 8.
Local darlings 84mm will be headlining, and support will come from Us and Them, DBS, The Daly Prophets and Dizzy Tales.
And Jamie, 20, of Oatlands, Gossops Green, reckons the event should be a
hit with music loving youngsters in the town.
He said: "I think during the summer, yes there are things for people to do, but not at the right time and not in places that are easy to get to, and music-wise it does seem to dry out a bit.
"But The Hawth is a great venue, it's really easy to get to because it's on the bus route.
"I am a bit nervous about it at the moment, it should be fine but it's the first type of its event to be held at The Hawth.
"It's the first time that this sort of band has played in the marquee outside, I mean there are lots of outside gigs, but they tend to be more gentle folk, so it should be interesting to see what the reception is to some loud rock bands."
Jamie's been involved in running music events since 2004 and projects
have included Crawley's Battle of the Bands as well as other work with Crawley Young Persons' Council and Live and Local in the studio at The Hawth.
And he got into the scene when he realised that friends in bands were struggling for gigs.
He said: "I'm completely tone deaf so I don't play an instrument, but my friends are in bands and they were saying
'We've got no gigs' so we just made our own."
And Jamie's not ruling out the possibility of a repeat Summer Jam if this one goes to plan.
He said: "If it goes well it'll definitely be done again.
"I'd like to organise it so it's a multiple event, so it goes on through August.
"This is the pilot run but depending on what kind of a reception we get we'll run it next year either as a single gig or as a series."
