LISTINGS: Spring season at The Hawth, Crawley

THE spring season at The Hawth has been unveiled - and it promises a huge variety of live productions, music, comedy, films and exhibitions.

Venue spokeswoman Lorraine Gould said: "There is music to suit every taste. There's jazz from Martin Speake (February 5), who takes tunes from the 20s to 40s and reinvents them; and the world-renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be returning once more as part of our Classical Season with the perfect treat for Valentine's Day, Romantic Classics (February 14).

"Billy Ocean (February 17) will be bringing hits including Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car, Love Really Hurts Without You and There'll Be Sad Songs to wow Crawley audiences and Alexander O'Neale (March 28) takes to the stage with 80's soul classics from Criticise to Never Knew Love Like This.

"Get all dressed up and ready to sing and dance along to your favourite songs with Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music (February 11) or maybe Bjrn Again (February 24) will be the ones to have you dancing in the aisles.

If guitar music is more your style then catch The Eduardo Niebla Experience (February 22) for some of the best flamenco jazz guitar playing in the world and for folk fans there's top fiddle player Tom McConville (March 24) plus much more."

The season is also strong on comedy, including Totally Looped (February 21), the improvised show starring Sanjeev Bhaskar (Goodness Gracious Me, The Kumars at No 42) that combines Mock the Week and YouTube; Lesley Joseph (Birds of a Feather) and Sam Kane (Brookside) star in the new musical Hot Flush (February 25), and writer Gervase Phinn (April 2) will be sharing his hilarious tales of life as a schools inspector.

Stand up-comic Ed Byrne (April 3), best known for Mock the Week and 8 Out of 10 Cats, proves he's in a Different Class with his hit show direct from Edinburgh Festival.

Lorraine added: "We spring into dance with a line-up of amazing companies including Ballet Boyz - Greatest Hits (Feb 10); contemporary Asian dance company Srishti (February 12) performing My Stamping Ground; Candoco (March 3) presenting two breath-taking works; Tavaziva Dance's Heart of Darkness (March 12) and Ballet Central (April 1) return to The Hawth with an exciting new programme showcasing some of the world's most talented young dancers."

Also coming up are the dance workshops Stomp! (February 8), Afro Street Dance (February 15) or Ballroom For Beginners (March 1).

"The new season also brings a selection of exciting theatre to the studio, with the Love&Madness Ensemble presenting two great works, the ever popular Oliver Twist (February 17) and the sophisticated, coolly-savage and humorous La Ronde (February 18).

"We will also be offering an insight into the lives of British Asian singletons in Rifco Arts' very funny and touching, Where's My Desi Soulmate? (February 19-21).

"Finally, we will be screening a variety of some of the most popular films of the season, including the touching Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (January 13), thrill-seekers favourite James Bond in Quantum Of Solace (January 14) and finally smash-hit High School Musical 3: Senior Year (February 19). "
