Dame Vera Lynn was guest of honour at the Spring Fair held in aid of NCH, the children's charity at High Beeches Gardens on Bank Holiday Monday.
She chatted with the craft and produce stallholders as well as visitors and was shown around and told the history of the Handcross gardens by Sarah Bray, who manages them.

The Spring Fair raised just over £1,000 for NCH and Dame Vera, who lives in Ditchling, praised everyone who helped make it a success on what was one of the first fair weather days for the gardens this spring.

Dame Vera said: "I was delighted to support such a worthwhile charity as NCH and to see the superb gardens on such a beautiful day. Everyone worked so hard to make the event such a success."
