The Dean of Plumpton College, described as pale and perfectly formed, has won a top accolade.
The name is used on a Plumpton Estate non-vintage sparkling wine that has beaten three champagnes, 67 other UK sparkling wines and a Californian Napa Valley sparkler.
Described as pale, lemon-gold with fine persistent bubbles the wine is made from the same grape varieties used in the Champagne region of France; Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
It took third place in an English sparkling wine challenge, the latest award for wines from the Mid Sussex area.
As well as the prize-winning Plumpton College wines, RidgeView at Ditchling Common and Bookers at Bolney have also collected awards in the past.
Paul Harley, wine sales manager at Plumpton College, said the college, which recently installed the latest wine-making equipment, was delighted with the award and a modest amount of the wine, priced at £15.78, was still available.
The wines that beat Plumpton were Theale Vineyard, Founder's Reserve 2003 and Meopham Valley Rosé.
