Volunteers join neighbourhood panel

THE first neighbourhood panel in Mid Sussex has attracted a lot of interest from people willing to serve on it.
About 15 people volunteered for the new project to help pinpoint policing issues when Leylands Ward town councillors held a 'surgery' at the Sidney West sports and community centre in Leylands Road, Burgess Hill.
Anne Jones, one of the councillors attending the session on Saturday, said: "We thought we would need about 15 people and we got got just over 15. They were people who said they would serve. It's very encouraging. I think we might have had even more but it's still the holiday season and some people could not get along.
"A lot of the issues raised at the meeting were about policing, including speeding, late night revellers and disturbance from some people coming home when the pubs turn out."
The other Burgess Hill town councillors for Leylands Ward, Simon Hicks and Pru Moore, attended the session with a representative from Sussex Police.
