Two students have been arrested after a noxious substance was released in the library at Central Sussex College, Crawley on Tuesday afternoon (January 29).

Both females have received a police caution, the first for a public order offence and the second for 'possession of a canister for the discharge of noxious gas.'

They are aged 18 and from Langley Green and Redhill respectively.

Students and staff had to be evacuated after the gas - believed to be pepper spray - was let off inside the college's library.

One female teacher needed hospital treatment after she inhaled some of the gas.

The woman was taken to Crawley Walk-in Centre with breathing difficulties but was later discharged.
