Helicopter searches for stolen van

A HELICOPTER was scrambled when a stolen white van was spotted heading up the A23.
The white Ford transit van was reported stolen by a hire car company when it was not returned.

It was seen heading west on the A27 from Lewes and north on the A23 towards Crawley around 9.30pm on Monday (June 29).

Police gave pursuit and the chopper whirred into action at 9.35pm.

A man was detained at the scene. A police spokesman said: "The helicopter and traffic units were involved.

"The vehicle was stopped around junction 10, there was a man in the vehicle and he is now in custody."
