The 224 Chelsea supporters had planned to fly to Russia on a special charter flight, leaving Gatwick just before 6am this morning.
But an airport spokesman said a technical probl
em caused the cancellation.
Some of the fans have left the airport because they are too late to get to the match, which starts at 1945 BST.

They arrived at the airport at 3am for a 6am flight. They were told the flight was delayed and wouldn't be departing until 8.00am, then they were told the delay had been put back to 10.30am. Finally, after hours of waiting, they were told the flight was cancelled. As true Chelsea fans, to say they are gutted is a complete understatement! How dreadful for all those fans who have paid a lot of money to be there to be messed around and then finally told they will not get the chance to see a match so important to the club and the fans. My Dad and brother would have done anything to be there to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity. Not only have they wasted hours upon hours but it has cost them thousands of pounds and it looks like their insurance will not even cover them because there was a fault with the plane. They explained to me how the airport was mayhem. No one knew what was going on and communication was practically non-existent. My heart goes out to all who should be there!
Paul Stables, Southwater: I was one of the Chelsea 300 stranded at Gatwick....and I agree it was shambolic. The game of a lifetime and a ticket in your pocket only to be completely let down by a series of unfortunate events. ...or were all those bizarre happenings all dreamed up?
All I know is I am now back home in Southwater drinking beer in my garden when I should be Moscow bound. These things happen only once in a lifetime and there were so many stories of heartache there this morning. The worst thing is at present we are still all in shock but it will come home with a bang later as we watch events unfold....and its not about the money why can't people understand that.
