A TEENAGER accused of killing a friend by dangerous and drunk driving faced magistrates today.
The 17-year-old boy – who can't be named for legal reasons – appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court on Thursday (March 27) to answer eight charges relating to a fatal smash on the M23 in October 2007.

The youth was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by careless driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving with excess alcohol, aggravated vehicle taking, driving without insurance and theft.

Rui Rica, 19, from Mill Road, Worthing, died at the scene of the smash.

The two surviving passengers are over 18-years-of-age and are likely to be called as prosecution witnesses, the court heard.

Chair of the magistrates Geoff Allen said: "Your case will be adjourned today and listed again in April at Crawley Youth Court.

"You will be required to attend on April 22 for a committal hearing.

"You have not been granted bail."

The teen, wearing a blue tracksuit, stood emotionless as he was remanded to appear in front of Crawley Youth Court on April 22.
