A SMASH involving five vehicles threatened rush-hour traffic on the M23 northbound this morning.
Emergency services were called at 7.10am to the crash that involved three cars and two large goods vehicles.

Firecrews from the Horley station attended the scene to deal with spillage from the rush-hour crash.

A spokesman from West Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "White watch at Horley were called to a road traffic accident spillage on the northbound carriageway of the M23.

"The crash, which happened between junctions seven and eight, involved three cars and two LGVs. We received the call at 7.10am and the stop message was sent just before 8am.

"There were no injuries reported at the scene. One ambulance attended but no-one was injured. There were no persons trapped so we didn't have to do any cutting. It was just a case of trying to make the vehicles safe and clearing the carriageway."
