UPDATED: Man who died in pylon smash named

A 70-year-old man died after his Mercedes hit an electricity pole on Friday.
The accident happened at 7.30pm on Friday evening in Upper Station Road, Henfield.

Emergency services attended, but the man died at the scene.

The man has now been formally identified as Anthony Tomsett, 72, of Fabians Way, Henfield.

It is believed Mr Tomsett had been taken ill at the wheel of the car immediately prior to the collision.

Police are investigating the cause of the collision at the junction with Broomfield Road and are appealing for any witnesses to contact the road policing unit on 0845 60 70 999 quoting Operation Settle.
