A COMMUNITY came together to celebrate the life of three-month-old Thomas Chant – who died in a tragic accident on Monday July 7.
Friends, family and well wishers gathered at Broadfield Barton for a fundraising memorial run from the shops to Crawley Town Football Club and back.

More than 60 kind-hearted volunteers turned up today (Wednesday) and watched as the Chant family release dozens of balloons to start the charity run.

Dozens of runners turned up at the Barton wearing pyjamas while a group of mums with pushchairs strolled the mile route.

Three local PSCOs, controlling traffic along the route, joined in the sprint finish to cheers from the crowd.

After the run was complete there was a moving minute silence that was faultlessly observed by all those that attended.

Thomas' mum, Abby Chant, 20, took part in the walk, with the support of her close-knit family, and crossed the finishing line to rapturous applause.

Somerfield, in Broadfield Barton, donated refreshment vouchers for the event and so far more than £1,100 has been raised for the devastated Chant family.

Family friend and even organiser Lynn Sinden said: "Today shows how close this community is. Everyone looks out for everyone else and we're all rallying round."
