Horley residents were curious when an armed police unit was called to a two-vehicle accident in the town.

Officers were called to Balcombe Road at around 9.20am on Monday (January 5) following the collision between a car and a white van.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said the road was closed in the immediate area while emergency crews attended but no injuries were reported.

Regarding the use of an armed unit, the spokesman added: “The only reason ‘armed officers’ attended was because they were the closest unit in the area.”
