Celtic Colleens steal the show at the Civic Ball

THE CELTIC Colleens were the stars of the show as the Mayor of Crawley, Cllr Carol Eade, hosted the annual Charity Civic Ball at the Hawth.

The dance troupe performed the routine which got them to the Britain’s Got Talent semi-final last year and recevied a wonderful ovation.

The Mayor was joined by former mayors, mayors from neighbouring areas, members of the Territorial Army, volunteer groups and a host of other local dignatries at the lavish do on Staurday night.

The Celtic Colleens were the main entertainment along with dance students from Holy Trinity School, who performed an innovative dance routine based around air travel to ‘Come Fly wiith Me’ by Michael Buble.

Cllr Eade said on the night: “A big thank you to all those from the voluntary sector for being here tonight and for all you do to serve the people of Crawley, all year round.

“Also a warm welcome to our local Territorial Army and say thank you to them for all their help with the Princess of Wales’ march last year and for their continued help for the work they do in the community.

“And please show your appreciation for the MC Malcolm Eynon for keeping us in order tonight. It’s not an easy job keeping members of Crawley Council in order I can tell you!”

More than £2,500 was raised on the night for 4Sight for the Blind and Crawley League of Friends. 4Sight for the Blind intends to use the funds raised to buy equipment to help poorly sighted people read their own correspondence.

And Crawley League of Friends intends to use the funds to purchase equipment to treat cancer patients in Crawley.

The money was raised by a raffle and auction, which saw people bidding for prizes such as two British Airways return tickets to anywhere in Europe, a signed Crawley Town Football and a round of golf for four people at Ifield Golf Club.
