Shop raises £175 for St Catherine’s

A POUND Hill shop has raised £175 for St Catherine’s Hospice through its Christmas raffle.

In the run-up to the festive season, Heathfield General Stores, in Poundhill, offered customers the chance to win one of three hampers, worth £180, £120 and £80.

The competition proved so popular that proprietors Tushar and Jyoti Patel managed to cover the cost of the hampers and still hand over a cheque to the Malthouse Road hospice.

Tushar, who has raised thousands of pounds in the past few years by climbing Kilimanjaro and trekking to one of the Everest base camps, said: “I think the hospice is a deserving cause because it’s a local charity. We’re a local business and we’ve been going for 25 years now and we wanted to give something back to the community.”
