Car fire on M23 caused by road debris

A severe car fire on the M23 this afternoon was likely to have been caused by debris in the road.

Three fire engines from Crawley and Horley attended a burning car on the northbound carriageway of the M23 between junction 10 and 11 at around 2.30pm today (May 15).

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said it was thought the fire was caused by the car hitting debris in the road.

No one was hurt and lanes were closed in both direction and reopened after about 30 minutes.
