A comedian has hit out at Gatwick Airport security claiming they searched his three-month-old son and then took away his bottle.

Chris O’Dowd, who starred as Roy Trenneman in the Channel 4 comedy The IT Crowd and is married to writer Dawn O’Porter, took to Twitter on April 28 to make his feelings known.

He told his 631,000 followers: “Thanks Gatwick security! Some might think body-searching a baby and binning his bottle was over zealous and weird, but not me! #ScaryBaby.”

The message was re-tweeted 237 times.

A spokesman for Gatwick said all passengers had to be screened when passing through security and added: “When young babies come through security we ask parents to carry them.

“If the scanning equipment picks up something, we have to check both the parent and the baby.

“We always try to handle these searches sensitively.

“The restrictions around liquids are government requirements, and passengers are advised that when travelling with a baby, they are allowed to take enough baby food, baby milk and sterilised water for the journey.”
