More than £720,000 has been awarded to community groups in Crawley.

Crawley Borough Council has awarded the funds as part of their community grants scheme for 2017/18 and 2018/19.

A presentation took place at the Civic Hall last Thursday (March 23).

The funds are to assist with the costs involved in new or existing activities, such as setting up and running projects, services and events that are of benefit to Crawley residents and visitors.

The grants will also be put towards maintaining the services that offer support to vulnerable groups in Crawley.

Cabinet member for Community Engagement, councillor Michael Jones said: “The council is delighted to have awarded grants to such wonderful community groups in Crawley.

“We are incredibly lucky to have a diverse range of groups that carry out supportive and meaningful work in the community and it is vital that we continue to award grants to help them offer those services.”

This year, groups who received community grants included: The Posh Club who received £13,716 for 2017/18, Crawley Open House who received £48,691 for 2017/18, Home Start Crawley for 2017/18, Horsham and Mid Sussex who received £17,553, Forget Me Not Club who received £3,680 (2017/18) and £3,680 (2018/19), Relate North and South West Sussex who received £24,913 (2017/18), Crawley Community Youth Service who received £25,240 (2017/18) and £25,484 (2018/19), Crawley Museum Society who received £9875 (2017/18) and £3,300 (2018/19) and Crawley United Reformed Church who received £3,000 (2017/18).
