Community spirit to be celebrated with party

Community spirit is high at a housing development in Three Bridges where residents are going to use a grant to start up an annual street party.

A £1,389 grant was awarded to Pembroke Park at a meeting of the West Crawley County Local Committee on January 23.

Lisa Hammer, from the Pembroke Park Residents Association, said the grant would help bring the community together and ensure that no one living on the estate felt alone.

She said: “The grant is going towards a community street party for all of the residents from throughout the development.

“On the development we have sheltered housing, housing association buildings, part let and private housing and it can lead to people feeling quite isolated from each other.

“We wanted to do something to try and bring everybody together so no-one feels on their own. We want to open out the street party to the whole development.”

Lisa said the idea for an annual street party came from the jubilee party the association held over the summer last year.

She added: “We got the idea for an annual street party from our jubilee party which we held for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

“It was such a success and so many people really enjoyed it we thought it would be great for the community and a good idea to make it an annual thing. We will have the street party every year now over the summer.

“It is definitely a great thing for the community, there are some people that came to the street party alone last year and it would be great for them to come along and meet and interact with other people and not feel they are on their own any more. We want a great community spirit and Pembroke Park and that is what we are working towards.”
