People have raised concerns over ‘boy racers’ in Crawley.

Residents complained about young people driving motorised cars with loud music in Tilgate Park’s car park late at night and riding ‘scramble’ bikes for hours on end in fields near Rusper Road, Ifield and areas near Buchan Country Park and Faygate.

A spokesman for Crawley Borough Council said: “The Council has received complaints from residents regarding cars being driven around Tilgate Park car park late at night. We are in discussion with the contractors to find ways how it can be minimised and are liaising with the Police as to what action can be taken. Community Wardens have been asked to make extra visits to the area as well.

“There are plans in place to dim the street lights on one side of the car park, whilst turning the others off at an appropriate time and speed ramps have been put in place to reduce speeding. In the coming autumn, we aim to replant the trees in the vicinity of where the works have been carried out in order to help reduce any noise pollution.

“We do intermittently receive complaints about quad or dirt bikes being ridden in other areas of Crawley and we will continue to work with the relevant agencies to try and resolve these problems.”
