Burglars stole items worth hundreds of pounds from the Sussex home of retired actor Godfrey James.

They made off with an 18 carat gold fob watch, an Omega watch and a carriage clock among other possessions, all of huge sentimental importance.

Eighty-four-year-old Mr James, pictured at the height of his career, has appeared in Witchfinder General, The Blood on Satan’s Claw, The Oblong Box, The Land That Time Forgot, Séance on a Wet Afternoon and television credits include The Avengers, Dixon of Dock Green, Return of the Saint, Minder, The Professionals, Bergerac, The Bill, Dempsey & Makepeace and Emmerdale Farm – as well as Doctor Who.

The burglary, at Ashburnham Road, Eastbourne, occurred between 10am and 4pm on Friday October 9 while Mr James was out with his daughter. An untidy search was made of the property.

Detectives would like to hear from anyone who has been offered such items for sale.

Anyone able to help is asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting serial 963 of 09/10.

Alternatively they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers without having to leave their name on 0800 555 111.
