Crawley Borough Council has issued an apology after it took council tax payments from 3,700 homes two days early.
A spokesman said: “Unfortunately, due to human error, the payment due on October 25 has been claimed today instead.
“Any bank charges incurred will be repaid by the council.
“This mistake was caused by human error and a new system has already been put in place to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
“Residents can choose to pay Council Tax by direct debit on the 1st, 15th or 25th of the month.”
