Crawley Discovery School closes this week

More than 60 children face starting at a new school when theirs closes for good this week.

Lessons will end at the Discovery New School, in Broadfield, on Friday (April 4) after it was ordered to close by the government, having failed to meet the standards required.

The school was opened in September 2011 and ordered to close in December 2013 after being judged ‘inadequate’ following its first Ofsted inspection.

Regarding the future of the children, West Sussex County Council confirmed their were 66 youngsters on the role when the decision to close the school was made.

Of those, 54 have found places at West Sussex schools, one child has applied to a school in East Sussex, two have moved to Somerset, one will be home educated and one has moved to a prep school.

One parent has yet to confirm their place and four families, including six children, have not contacted the council.

A council spokesman said: “We will follow up with these families after the school has closed.

“However, there are sufficient local places for the remaining children whose families are yet to contact us.”
