The Ifield Divers sub aqua club is recruiting members after receiving a £9,500 grant from Sport England.

The club will spend the funds on new training equipment for use at its weekly sessions at the K2.

In celebration of receiving the grant they recently entertained Crawley MP Henry Smith in a Try Dive and are hoping to attract others to learn the sport too.

Membership is open to anyone aged 16 years and above.

Secretary Peter Taylor said: “The club is run by and for amateur sport divers and we can look back on a long and successful history spanning getting on for 50 years.

“Over the years, we have trained many people as well as catering for those who are already qualified.

“In recent years, we have also taken on Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme youngsters as part of their skills programme.

“In fact, our most recent recruit started off as a DofE student and like it so much that she joined the club as a full member, bringing her father along too. Both are now qualified Open Water Divers!

“We currently run a dive boat which is moored in Brighton Marina. It is equipped with safety and navigation equipment and even has a lift on the stern to bring the divers out of the after at the end of their dives – bliss!”
