Crawley fire crews put out motorway van fire

Firefighters were called to a van fire on the M23.

The two fire crews put out the white Vauxhall Astra van after its engine caught fire in the northbound lane between Crawley and Gatwick at around 8am today (Friday June 20).

Firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus and one hose reel to put out the blaze, which destroyed the front of the vehicle.

Simon Constable, Green Watch commander at Crawley Fire Station, said the two people who were in the van were not injured.
