A bid to convert offices to flats has been approved despite objections from Ifield Conservation Area Advisory Committee (IVCAAC) and residents.

Crawley Borough Council’s planning committee approved the plans for first floor offices above Boutique Hairdressers in Ifield House, Ifield Green on Friday (May 6).

IVCAAC and neighbours had objected to the prior approval proposals by Helen Bewsey to create three flats over parking and traffic concerns.

A letter from IVCAAC stated: “The proposed development will introduce additional parking of up to six cars which cannot safely be accommodated in the area.

“Staff at present park in the car park behind the building, but will not be able to do so if this proposal goes ahead.”

It said parking would increase along Ifield Green and into The Tithe, adding residents already find it difficult to get out onto Ifield Green because of “unsuitable parking”.

A residents’ letter stated: “The Tithe, which adjoins the site, is a narrow cul-de-sac with a severe parking problem.”

Another added: “I live in The Tithe and at the present time the Boutique Hairdressers already creates a great deal of traffic and causes problems with parking in our close.”

Council officers have recommended plans for approval.

West Sussex County Council, the highways authority, did not object to the application.
