A Crawley hotel was evacuated after a high pressure gas main was fractured in a road accident.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to Crowne Plaza Hotel, Langley Lane, after a heavy goods lorry collided with the main at 2.19pm on Friday (April 17).

A spokesman said firefighters set up a 100m cordon around where gas was venting into the air.

Hotel occupants were evacuated to the opposite end of the site by staff.

Engineers from Southern Gas Networks isolated the gas.

The lorry driver was uninjured.

Police were in attendance.

The two East Grinstead crews left the scene at 4.13pm.
