The 23-year-old, who was one of six released by Posh at the end of last week, is on Reds head coach Dermot Drummy’s radar, according to his former chairman Barry Fry.

The quick forward scored six goals in 36 appearances at Peterborough in a three-year spell, during which time he had loans at Oxford United, Dagenham & Redbridge and Shrewsbury Town.

Vassell signed at the ABAX Stadium from non-league Bishop’s Stortford in November 2013 and scored five goals in the opening eight matches of last season before his form tailed off.

His previous clubs include Sutton United and Chelmsford City as well as a loan spell with local side Whitehawk in the 2011-12 season.
