A Crawley mother is urging people to be vigilant after her disabled son’s bike was stolen from her kitchen - while she was inside the house.

The woman, who does not wish to be named, was home alone in Bewbush, Crawley on Saturday (October 25) when someone entered her property and stole the £250 bicycle.

The bike belonged to her son, who has special needs and is registered disabled.

“Around 2pm I was in the house on my own, I went to the bathroom and everything seemed normal - I didn’t notice nothing amiss,” she said.

“My sons came home and my youngest son asked my other son ‘where is your bike?’

“He replied it is in the kitchen, but it was not.

“In the time it took me to go to the bathroom someone had come into my house and stole a £250 pushbike from the kitchen.

“The police have been alerted.

“I just want to warn others that even when you are home keep doors, windows and gates locked.

“It is scary knowing someone came into my house and I was home alone.

“The attached picture is similar to the stolen one but the forks and seat are black.

“My son has special needs and is disabled, so the bike was his way of freedom.

“He enjoyed bike riding with his friend and had saved his DLA money to buy the bike.”

Anyone with information should phone Sussex Police on 101.
