Crawley suffered their fifth defeat at home in six matches when they lost 3-0 against fourth from bottom Crewe Alexandra.

Crewe opened the scoring in the 39th minute from the penalty spot by James Jones and increased their lead with two more goals soon after the break netted by Jordan Bowery and Chris Dagnall.

Dermot Drummy named an unchanged team from that which drew 2-2 away to Barnet on Saturday.

Rhys Murphy started alongside James Collins upfront and had two early chances.

A volley from the outside of the boot flew narrowly over the bar while a breakaway attack involving Conor Henderson and Enzio Boldewijn holding the ball up well, ended in Murphy firing well wide.

For Crewe, George Cooper forced Glenn Morris to make a low save and Jordan Bowery scuffed a tap-in wide from eight yards.

Both sides had to make early substitutions on 22 minutes for injuries to defenders. Josh Yorwerth came on for Mark Connolly while at the other end, Perry Ng replaced George Ray.

A good run by Crewe's Zoumana Bakayogo was not followed up with a good finish which was held by Morris.

Crewe took the lead six minutes before half-time from the penalty spot which was put away to Morris' right by James Jones after Josh Lelan fouled Ben Nugent.

Reds had a go through Murphy again but the chance forced a good save from a narrow angle.

Crewe came out of the blocks fastest for the second half and managed to score twice in two minutes.

A breakaway attack led to George Cooper putting Bowery through on goal, who slid the ball under Morris.

Crewe then went 3-0 up on 52 minutes with another quick move, scored by Dagnall placed to the left of the keeper.

Reds responded by bringing on Billy Clifford for Dean Cox and Josh Payne for Jimmy Smith.

Rreds had a series of corners but found it difficult to create chances until Murphy hit the crossbar in added time.
