Crawley Town will face the academy side of Premier League outfit Southampton in this year’s Football League Trophy.
They have been drawn in group E of the newly-restructured competition, formerly the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, along with Charlton Athletic and Colchester United.
The draw was split into 16 groups of four teams with Reds in section two of the South side of the draw.
The group is made up of teams from League One, League Two and a high-profile academy side.
The academy sides that Reds could have been drawn against were Brighton & Hove Albion, Norwich City, Southampton and West Bromwich Albion.
They missed out on the chance to play Chelsea, Reading, Swansea City and West Ham, who were placed in section one of the South draw.
Teams will play each other once in the group stage with dates to be confirmed.
