Crawley Town eye up big game classic
CRAWLEY Town manager Steve Evans has issued a rallying call to get behind his team for what promises to be a thrilling showdown.
The Reds face league leaders Stevenage Borough in their next match on Saturday, March 27, eager to pull themselves up into the play-off places.
Town have been enjoying a terrific run in the last few months and now lie on the cusp of challenging for a place in the Football League.
In the last week they have sealed two fine 2-1 wins, beating Non-League giants AFC Wimbledon followed by another on against Ebbsfleet Utd.
This lifted them up to eighth in the table and only four points away from the magical top-five.
Evans has revealed the injury crisis which saw him bring in Histon defender Matt Langston on loan has eased.
He has been reported as being interested in bringing in a striker from the same club, but he has now revealed he will not be looking for any more reinforcements until after the Stevenage game.
Evans said: "A week on Saturday we are playing the biggest game in the club's history.
"We have beaten Luton, Ebbsfleet and AFC Wimbledon and they don't come any better.
"This is a cup final and we need to win. Stevenage are in invincible form but with the help of the people of Crawley I think we can beat them.
"The crowds have been up recently and our supporters have been great.
The players are playing the best football they've ever played.
"I am calling on everyone to cancel their appointments in their diaries and come down to Broadfield Stadium. It will be a cracker."
Evans said with an unusual blank weekend this week caused by the expulsion of Chester from the league, he has already started preparing for the game.
He handed Adam Quinn, Danny Forrest, Matt Langston, Lewis Killeen and Eddie Hutchinson a run out for the reserves in their match against Coca Cola League 1 club Gillingham at Broadfield yesterday (Wednesday), which they won by a staggering 6-0 margin.
Mikey Malcolm was another first team regular given a game and he signalled his intention to start the Reds' next game by scoring a hat-trick.
Having only played Stevenage on March 6, when they lost 2-0 in away, Evans added: "We know everything about them. We could have got something from the game as we were pushing them in the second half.
"This time we'll be stronger and everyone will be wanting to be in the team. We need all our supporters to think the same."
