The Reds will wear black armbands in memory of the ‘Father of Crawley’ at a home game.

Michael Dunford, Crawley Town Football Club’s chief executive, confirmed the team will wear the bands in memory of Bert Crane, who served on the council for 58 years, on Saturday’s game against Barnsley (February 14).

Mr Crane died on Tuesday, aged 87.

Cllr Brian Quinn (Lab, Broadfield North), a Reds supporter, said: “It will show to the residents of Crawley that Bert Crane was really loved by everybody.

“He was a father figure of Crawley.”
