A 20-year-old Broadfield man has been jailed for two and a half years after police found £104,000 of cocaine in a property in Southgate.

Ashhaq Khan pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs, possession of class B drugs (cannabis) and acquiring/using/possession of criminal property in March.

Yesterday (Wednesday May 13), he was sentenced to two years and six months imprisonment at Hove Crown Court.

Officers from the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) and Sussex Police executed a warrant in Perryfield Road, Southgate, in December 2014.

During the search of the property 495 grams of cocaine at a purity of 91 percent was found in a takeaway bag on the kitchen worktop, a spokesperson for SEROCU said.

The estimated street value of the cocaine was £104,000.

Under the Christmas tree a box containing £38,000 of cash was found along with other drug related paraphernalia and a personal amount of cannabis.

Detective chief inspector Mark Chapman of SEROCU said: “As a regional asset, we have continued to apply the pressure on organised criminals and their activities, with the view of making it extremely difficult for them to operate within the South East region.

“Khan had full intention to supply these drugs to the streets of Crawley and we are pleased that today’s sentence represents the serious nature of these offences.

“We are glad that we were able to stop a large quantity of high purity cocaine was stopped from hitting the streets, which would have no doubt led to other crimes being committed and causing misery to local residents.

“I would like to thank Sussex Police for their continued cooperation in targeting and dismantling organised crime groups.”
